1990s

Patriot American Office Group was founded in 1992 by William L. Mack, Paul Nussbaum and two other partners. That year the company purchased TriWest Plaza, a class A 367,018 square foot office building in Dallas, Texas. The company also made its first RTC (Resolution Trust Corporation) purchase of two office buildings and one hotel.

In December 1992, Patriot American completed the largest bulk RTC transaction with the purchase of 24 office properties and one hotel. The properties totaled approximately 4 million square feet and 700 hotel rooms for a purchase price of $125 million, and were located primarily in Texas. Occupancy levels were approximately 35% at the time of purchase. Landon Corporation was purchased by Patriot American that same month.

Internally, the company bifurcated into two units, Patriot American Office Group (office properties) and Patriot American Hospitality (hotel division), during 1993-1995. The hotel division, Patriot American Hospitality, went public in 1996, splitting off and creating Patriot American Hospitality Real Estate Investment Trust.

In December 1997, Patriot American Office Group and its 3.6 million square foot office portfolio merged into Cali Realty Corporation along with The Mack Company, creating Mack-Cali Realty Corporation.
