In October, Mack-Cali hosted New Jersey's Canstruction Charity Competition at Harborside Financial Center in Jersey City to benefit The Community FoodBank of New Jersey.
Canstruction is a design/build charity competition with a mission to help feed the hungry. All of the 11 tons of food from the Canstruction food sculptures were donated to The Community FoodBank of New Jersey.

Competition Benefits The Community FoodBank of New Jersey.
Mack-Cali was host to the 2006 CANstruction Competition at Harborside Financial Center on the Jersey City waterfront in late October. Developed by the Society for Design Administration, CANstruction® is a design/build charity competition whose mission is to help feed the hungry. This year, teams of professionals and students designed and built impressive sculptures made entirely from full cans of food—27,237 in total—all of which were donated to The Community FoodBank of New Jersey.
On awards night, 180 people gathered in the Harborside Atrium to celebrate and find out the winners.

The New Jersey Chapter of the Building Owners and Managers Association ("BOMA") recently presented The Office Building of the Year awards to Mack-Cali and its Gale GFS subsidiary. Harborside Financial Center Plaza 10 in Jersey City was awarded in the category of office buildings over 500,000 square feet, and the Toys "R" Us corporate headquarters in Wayne was awarded in the corporate facility category. The awards were presented in June at the BOMA New Jersey Chapter's Annual Night at the Races Awards Dinner held at Pegasus West in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

Falcon Update: 101 Hudson Street
|
The three falcons that hatched in early May on the roof of Mack-Cali's 101 Hudson Street in Jersey City have successfully flown the nestbox and are out on their own. Young falcons usually migrate during their first year, and they could spend their first winter as far away as Central America.
The adult falcons can still be seen occasionally sitting in the vicinity of the nestbox. Visit www.njfishandwildlife.com/peregrinecam to try to catch some falcon activity at 101 Hudson Street.

Mack-Cali is holding toy drives at many of its properties this holiday season to help disadvantaged children. Toys for Tots and other charitable organizations collect new, unwrapped toys, which can be left in the drop off boxes at participating Mack-Cali buildings. Toys for boys and girls ages 13 to 16 are especially needed.

Westlakes tenants collect food for hurricane relief |
Tenants and Mack-Cali employees at Westlakes Business Park in Berwyn, Pennsylvania collected 269 pounds of food, toiletries, baby supplies and clothing for the Philabundance Disaster Response to assist relief and recovery efforts for Hurricane Katrina. To date, Philabundance has sent 10 truckloads, carrying 358,400 pounds of supplies.

The new nest box and web cam were recently installed by the New Jersey Division of Fish and Wildlife for the Peregrine Falcons on the roof of the building. They are part of a restoration program for these rare falcons. The falcons remain at 101 Hudson year round, and an average brood of three-four eggs usually hatching in early to mid-May.

Third Art Exhibit Opens at Harborside Plaza 5

The third Mack-Cali sponsored art exhibit at Harborside Financial Center Plaza 5 in Jersey City runs from August 1 through January 7, with an opening reception for tenants on the first evening. The exhibit, "Building Blocks", features abstract sculptural installations - created by area artists Robert Pfitzenmeier, Alex Macleitch, Helen Brough, and Stephen Hightower -exploring the building blocks of geometric shapes and forms. Regular viewing hours for the exhibit are 9am to 6pm, Monday through Saturday.

Mack-Cali is sponsoring an art exhibit, DIVERGE, at its Harborside Financial Center Plaza 5 on the Jersey City Waterfront. The exhibit, which runs through July 30, features abstract sculptural work relating to one of the four elements: earth, air, fire, and water. Toys for the holidays

During the holiday season, thousands of toys were donated by Mack-Cali tenants throughout the portfolio to disadvantaged children through toy drives held at Mack-Cali properties.

Over 50 children from Jersey City's Project Head Start gathered at Harborside Financial Center, where Santa Claus handed out toys donated by the Harborside tenants.

In December, Mack-Cali helped out the Horizon School Cerebral Palsy of North Jersey by donating approximately 150 used chairs. Tenants Warm up Valentine's Day with Blood Drives |
The Blood Center of New Jersey held blood drives at Mack-Cali properties this winter. Mack-Cali tenants at 11 Commerce Drive warmed up Valentine's weekend by donating blood at The Blood Center of New Jersey's Bloodmobile. Blood donors also received complimentary cholesterol screening.

Toy for Tots |
During the holiday season, over a thousand toys were donated by Mack-Cali tenants for the Toys for Tots program and other toy drives. New toys were distributed to disadvantaged children in local communities.

On December 10, 2003, Kevin McCullough, director of sales for Lightpath, and Michael A. Grossman, executive vice president of Mack-Cali Realty Corporation, presented a $15,000 charity gift to Westchester Medical Center's president and CEO, Edward A. Stolzenberg, and senior executive vice president and chief administrative officer, Marilyn Slaatten. The donation was funded by the participation of Mack-Cali tenants in Lightpath's Putt4Life charity program held at Mack-Cali properties. Mack-Cali Connecticut Property Wins BOMA Award |

Soundview Plaza, a seven-story, 179,260 square-foot class A office property located at 1266 East Main Street in Stamford, Connecticut, won the 2003 Office Building of the Year (TOBY) award, in the 100,000 - 249,999 square-foot office building category. The award was presented by the Southern Connecticut chapter of the Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) at its Awards Gala in October. After acquiring the building in 2002, Mack-Cali made major enhancements to its entry plaza, surveillance system, cooling tower, emergency generator and parking garage. The TOBY award is based on excellence in office building management, where all facets of a property's operations are evaluated including building maintenance, tenant relations programs, and community involvement.

ADA Run at Westlakes |
On October 9, Mack-Cali and the American Diabetes Association teamed up to organize the "America's Walk for Diabetes-after Work," a fundraising walk to benefit the American Diabetes Association. The event was held at Mack-Cali's Westlakes Office Park in Berwyn, Pennsylvania.

On October 5, Mack-Cali sponsored its 6th Annual 2003 Mack-Cali/White Plains Race held in downtown White Plains, New York, which included a 10K Race along with its 5K Race and 1-Mile Fun Walk. Proceeds went to White Plains Hospital Center.

Denver Office Raises Funds for Abused Kids |
On August 23, Mack-Cali's Denver office again joined real estate brokers from around the state, Denver Active 20-30 and the Denver Nuggets Community Fund to raise funds to benefit children's charities in Colorado. Brokers Benefiting Kids (formerly known as Brokers for Battered Kids) successfully raised over $295,000 at this year's event.

History Comes to Harborside |
Mack-Cali has installed several 'kiosks' at Harborside Financial Center offering a historical perspective of the Harborside site through graphics and text. These kiosks are enjoyed by Mack-Cali tenants, visitors and pedestrians, as well as ferry, light rail and PATH commuters. They provide an important link to Harborside's long history of commerce. If you haven't seen them yet check them out. Locations include outside by Plaza 1, the main atrium entrance and the entrance to the Hyatt Regency Jersey City on the Hudson.

CEO Mitchell Hersh Honored |
On June 10, Mack-Cali CEO Mitchell E. Hersh was honored by two New Jersey organizations. He received the Humanitarian Award from the National Conference for Community and Justice, New Jersey Region, at its Commercial Real Estate Luncheon. The award is presented to a commercial real estate professional who contributes to the quality of life in New Jersey through activities on behalf of individuals of all cultural, ethnic and religious backgrounds.
Hersh also received the Partnership Award from New Jersey Network public television and radio for his contributions to New Jersey's economy and communities. The photo above shows Hersh accepting his award at the NJN Gala. The award was presented by Governor McGreevey and former Governors Byrne, Kean, Florio and DeFrancesco.

Harborside Financial Center Plaza 10, a 19-story 577,575 square-foot class A office tower in Jersey City, New Jersey, received a 2003 New Good Neighbor award presented by the New Jersey Business & Industry Association and New Jersey Business magazine on June 4. The building was developed by Mack-Cali in 2002 and is 100% leased to Charles Schwab & Co. Jeffrey M. Brown Associates, Inc. was the general contractor and HLW International LLP was the architect of the project. Harborside Plaza 10 is jointly owned by Mack-Cali and Columbia Development. The New Good Neighbor Award is presented to businesses that have improved the business climate in New Jersey by building or renovating a commercial facility.
Mack-Cali Business Campus, a 12-building class A office complex in Parsippany, New Jersey, won a 2003 Office Building of the Year (TOBY) Award from the New Jersey chapter of the Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA). The complex won in the low-rise suburban office park category.
International Financial Tower, a 19-story, 622,000 square-foot class A office property managed by Mack-Cali and located at 95 Christopher Columbus Drive in Jersey City, New Jersey, also won a 2003 TOBY award from NJ-BOMA. The building, which was developed by Mack-Cali in 1989 and sold in 2000, won in the 500,000 to 1 million square-foot office building category. The TOBY award is based on excellence in office building management, with all facets of a building's operations evaluated including building maintenance, tenant relations programs, and community involvement.

Mack-Cali Upgrades Hamilton Township Park |
Mack-Cali donated its services to upgrade Sayen Gardens, a public park in Hamilton Township, New Jersey. Mack-Cali, which agreed to provide up to $75,000 in services toward the town's complete upgrade of the park, installed an underground irrigation and sprinkler system, a new waterfall and fountains. Tenants at Mack-Cali's Horizon Center Business Park in Hamilton Township, as well as area residents and businesses, will be able to fully enjoy the park and its complete renovation.

Boys & Girls Club Annual Dinner |
In April, Mack-Cali was a sponsor of the 2003 Boys & Girls Club Annual Dinner, a steak and burger dinner held by Harborside tenant Merrill Lynch to benefit the Boys & Girls Clubs of Hudson County. Mack-Cali also serves as the sponsor of the Club's Basketball Program, which benefits hundreds of school-aged children in the community.

Helping Infants |
In April, Mack-Cali was again a sponsor of the Taste of Hudson 2003 held at Harborside to benefit Hudson Cradle Infant Home, a not-for-profit home for infants who are born disadvantaged and drug-addicted. Several chefs from restaurants in Hudson County enjoyed serving their specialties for the benefit. Approximately 400 people participated in this event.

Mack-Cali Wins BOMA Award for Westlakes Office Park |
Mack-Cali's Westlakes Office Park in Berwyn, Pennsylvania was named BOMA Philadelphia's 2002 "Best of the Best" in the Best Business Park Setting category. Westlakes Office Park is a four-building class A office complex totaling 444,000 square feet set on a 44-acre site, featuring jogging trails, gardens, spring-fed lakes, on-site cafes, a fitness center, conference facility and full-service banking.

The Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC), a transportation planning, financing and coordinating agency for the San Francisco Bay Area, presented the 2002 MTC Transportation Merit Award to Mack-Cali, Summit Commercial and Daly City Redevelopment Agency for their new Pacific Plaza development in Daly City, California. MTC's annual Transportation Awards recognize people and organizations that have made extraordinary contributions towards improving transportation and its efficiency in the Bay Area. Pacific Plaza is a mixed-use complex consisting of 600,000 square feet of office space and 40,000 square feet of retail space. On October 28, representatives of Mack-Cali and Lightpath presented a check to the American Red Cross to benefit its Liberty Fund for the victims of the 9/11/01 attack on the World Trade Center. Donations came from "Putt4Life" charity fundraisers that Lightpath and Mack-Cali organized at select Mack-Cali buildings from July 2001 through October 2002. Tenants at buildings in Parsippany, New Jersey; Elmsford, Hawthorne, Tarrytown, White Plains and Yonkers, New York; and Stamford, Norwalk and Greenwich, Connecticut, participated, raising $18,500 for the American Red Cross.

Volunteer Week in Cranford... |
October 7-11 was "Volunteer Week" at Mack-Cali's Cranford, New Jersey properties. Tenants and Mack-Cali employees donated gently worn business clothing to Suit Yourself, an organization that assists women and men with the transition from welfare to work. Food was also collected for the Cranford Family Care food drive to help the needy families in Cranford, New Jersey. Thanks to all who contributed!
On October 11, The Blood Center of New Jersey Bloodmobile held a blood drive at 11 Commerce Drive in Cranford. Tenants and employees who donated blood received complimentary cholesterol screenings.

In Remembrance... |
On 9/11/02, Mack-Cali dedicated "Dauntless Efforts," a sculpture commissioned by the company to honor the efforts of rescue and recovery workers after the 9/11 attack on the World Trade Center. Mack-Cali Chief Executive Officer Mitchell E. Hersh, Jersey City Mayor Glenn Cunningham, U.S. Congressman Robert Menendez and New Jersey State Senator Bernard Kenny spoke at the event, which took place at Harborside Financial Center in Jersey City, New Jersey.
The sculpture, created by Jersey City ProArts member Matthew Johnson (Click here for the artist's statement.), shows a silhouette of an ironworker amidst the World Trade Center rubble. (The rubble in the steel sculpture is from the actual wreckage of the World Trade Center ruins.) "Dauntless Efforts" was placed along a walkway adjacent to Harborside Financial Center Plaza 5.

On September 29, Mack-Cali and thousands of runners and walkers throughout the East Coast participated in the Liberty HealthCare System Foundation's 9th Annual Liberty Waterfront Run and 2002 American Heart Walk event at Harborside Financial Center in Jersey City.
The Liberty Waterfront Run raised money to benefit the Children's Hospital of Hudson County at Jersey City Medical Center. The American Heart Association's Heart Walk raised money for the fight against America's number one killer, cardiovascular disease.

During the week of June 24th, Mack-Cali held cookouts at 10 of its office buildings in Denver to raise money for the victims of the tragic wildfire in Colorado. Mack-Cali will match the profits made from the cookouts, for a total donation of over $8,500 to the American Red Cross Colorado Wildfire Disaster Relief Fund. Supplies for the firefighters—such as razors, toothbrush and toothpaste—were also collected.

On February, Mitchell E. Hersh, Chief Executive Officer, received the certificate of appreciation awarded to Mack-Cali from the 3rd Battalion 112th Field Artillery branch of the New Jersey Army National Guard. Mack-Cali supported and encouraged the full participation of Commanding LTC James T. Corrigan III, Mack-Cali's Director of Property Management for Morris and Somerset county properties during Operation Noble Eagle, a mission which lasted throughout December to deter further terrorist acts and to give confidence to the public.

Have you noticed that some roads are looking a bit cleaner lately? That may be due in part to the "Adopt A Highway" program, which allows businesses to "adopt" a portion of a highway to pay for cleaning services along the road. Mack-Cali recently adopted two new locations — a one-mile stretch of the Cross Westchester Expressway (I-287) in Greenburgh, New York, and a one-mile stretch along I-280 in Roseland, New Jersey. Jersey City Property Manager Receives Transit Service Award

Brian McClean, Property Manager of Harborside Financial Center in Jersey City, New Jersey, received New Jersey Transit's first Distinguished Service Award on December 13. Brian, who has served tenants at Harborside since 1992, was recognized for his proactive communications with New Jersey Transit to ensure tenants receive the best transit service—and for being New Jersey Transit's "eyes and ears" in Jersey City.
While Brian has coordinated NJ Transit events at Harborside for several years, post-9/11 he has worked tirelessly to get increased Light Rail service and reduced fares to accommodate tenants, including the approximately 5,000 extra people working at Harborside that were displaced from lower Manhattan due to the 9/11 events. Congratulations to Brian McClean for his wonderful accomplishment and dedication to his tenants and the community!

Mack-Cali Sponsors New Jersey 2001 American Heart Walk

Mitchell E. Hersh, chief executive officer of Mack-Cali Realty Corporation, served as Regional Corporate Chairman of the 2001 American Heart Association's Heart Walk on October 21. Alongside him at the Northern New Jersey race at Bergen Community College in Paramus, Mack-Cali employees, tenants, family and friends walked to raise money for the fight against America's number one killer, cardiovascular disease. Northern New Jersey walkers and sponsors raised a record of over $950,000 for the cause.

Mack-Cali Receives EPA Award for 570 Taxter Road |
570 Taxter Road, a six-story, 75,000 square-foot class A office building in Elmsford, New York, was Mack-Cali's sixth building in Westchester County to receive the Energy Star designation in 2001. It was recognized for its energy-efficient systems and technologies such as T-8 fluorescent office lighting, variable frequency fan drive systems, thermal windows, high-pressure sodium exterior lighting and electronic HVAC control systems.

Vending Machines Generate Donations for Kids! |
Buying a drink from Coca-Cola vending machines at Mack-Cali properties not only provides a refreshing beverage-it also generates a contribution to the Boys and Girls Club! A portion of each sale goes directly to the Boys and Girls Club of America-a youth organization promoting physical fitness, social development and health and safety awareness to disadvantaged children across the country-in order to assist in the funding for programs and activities.
Mack-Cali also serves as the sponsor of the Boys and Girls Club of Hudson County, New Jersey Basketball Program. The teams have fostered lessons of responsibility through teamwork, competition and continuous learning in a safe environment for hundreds of school-aged children in this community.
